Martyn Smith

Martyn Smith has a 25+ year career with a focus on Intelligence, analysis and Insights across multiple industries and sectors. An inspiring, pragmatic and highly collaborative leader, Martyn has a unique understanding of how Competitive Intlligence can create meaningful and lasting impact within organisations. Martyn studied Business Administration & Finance at Coventry University following which he attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and served in the British Army for six years during which in addition to multiple overseas postings he also attended Cambridge University, and Bristol University. After leaving the Army Martyn worked in Intelligence and Analytical roles in Formula 1 Racing and FMGC (LEGO) before starting in the Pharmaceutical Industry in 2004 working for Novo Nordisk and LEO Pharma at their corporate headquarters in strategic functions Martyn joined Roche in 2011, initially supporting the Biosimilar Task Force before assuming leadership roles in the Industry Analytics and CI Department. In 2016, he received the Roche GPS Excellence Award for his insight work that had a significant impact on Roche’s Biosimilar understanding and strategy. From 2016- 2021, Martyn was the Head, Global Competitive Intelligence. In this role, he developed and led the Global CI function of 30 managers based in Switzerland, the US and China with full portfolio and lifecycle responsibility. The Global CI team also has permanent seats on a number of Senior Decision Making Committees and regularly feeds into strategic projects and questions from Executive management.
